Ask your Parliamentary Representative to support NACC

What is an Early Day Motion?

Early day motions are formal motions submitted for debate in the House of Commons. However, very few EDMs are actually debated. Instead, they are used for reasons such as publicising the views of individual MPs, drawing attention to specific events or campaigns, and demonstrating the extent of parliamentary support for a particular cause or point of view.  An MP can add their signature to an EDM to show their support. They can also submit amendments to an existing EDM.

Currently there is an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons in support of NACC’s work and it would be wonderful if we could get the majority of MP’s to sign it.  The Early Day Motion is number 687 which says:

That this House records its thanks for the outstanding work of the National Association for Colitis and Crohn's Disease, the voluntary organisation working to improve the lives of people affected by inflammatory bowel conditions; notes its campaign to highlight, amongst other things, the importance of the provision and training of specialist nurses to help care for sufferers of such diseases; recalls that the Department of Health is currently reviewing its strategy on managing chronic illnesses; and calls upon the Government to deliver the necessary financial and technical support needed for the effective management of such illnesses.

This web page will help you identify your representative and prepare a letter to send:

NB. This Early Day Motion was originally put forward in the 2007 session of Parliament and attracted 84 signatures before it lapsed at the end of the Parliamentary year.

The sponsor MP Alan Meale has decided to put forward the same Early Day Motion in 2008 to give time for more MPs to sign their support.

If you wish, you can click here to see if your MP signed the first EDM in June 2007 and then click here to see if they have signed the 2008 version.
